Energetic Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic treatment based on the idea that there are "reflex" areas on certain body parts (like the feet, hands, and face) that correspond to every other area of the body. Indeed, the entire body and its systems can be mapped out on these areas. The feet contain the most commonly worked with reflex points. When specific reflex points are stimulated, that organ or system is assisted in balancing itself toward healing and wholeness. Reflexology is used primarily to stimulate circulation, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

A form of reflexology was practiced thousands of years ago in ancient Egypt, India, China, and the Americas. Modern reflexology has its origins in Europe and North America in the late 19th and 20th centuries.

What to Expect

In traditional reflexology, the Massage Therapist applies pressure with small movements using his or her hands or, occasionally, a stone or wooden massage tool. Energetic Reflexology uses the principles of energywork to stimulate the reflexology points. This is gentler for the client as well as the therapist, and the body assimilates this life force energy well, which seems to lead to longer-lasting results. People generally find reflexology to be relaxing, although some points on the foot can be extremely tender. Be sure to communicate any discomfort to your therapist! By stimulating circulation, reflexology can also be invigorating and increase energy.
