Cradling is a form of bodywork where the therapist
uses a sheet or a piece of fabric to cradle the body part being worked
on. The cradling effect allows the client to let go more deeply than is
possible through hands-on touch, resulting in greater relaxation and a
deeper stretch. Even though human touch is incredibly soothing and
nurturing, there is an undeniable difference in the degree to which a
body part can, and automatically will, let go when it is held in a
protective cradle.
Everyone seems to enjoy this incredibly relaxing technique. Clients say
that within moments, they feel as if they are almost asleep. Their
bodies and limbs feel heavy and deeply relaxed. The cradle caresses,
lifts, and opens up the body, and feels nurturing and comforting.
Cradling is usually done on a padded mat on the floor, and is performed with both the therapist and the client fully clothed - please wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows plenty of movement. I will help you move into comfortable, relaxing positions on the mat, using cushions to support body parts as needed, and then place a folded sheet beneath your limbs, head, and torso, one at a time, and gently rhythmically rock each part within the soft hug of the cradle.
